IV Street Club - Acorn Club Partnership
Dear Fellow IV Street members:
The IV Street Club Club has a 30-year successful and exclusive partnership with the Acorn Club of Philadelphia. As you know, we dine there regularly for lunch, and many of our most important annual events are held at the Acorn.
In recent years, we have moved some of our “First Tuesday Lunches” and special dining events to suburban venues. Nonetheless, our relationship with the Acorn continues, and it provides IV Street Club members important and attractive benefits of which we all should be aware. (This information is available for your review on our club website.)
Benefits of our relationship with the Acorn Club
The list of benefits accompanying our relationship goes well beyond our regular IV Street “First Tuesday Lunches” and Special Club dining events. Here is a breakdown:
- IV Street Club members may enjoy The Acorn Club on their own during regular hours. You may bring guests plus hold private events, subject to calendar availability. Lunch is available Monday through Friday; reservations are recommended. Dinner is also available on Thursday and Friday evenings with advanced reservations. Breakfast is available Monday through Friday by advance request only. Call: 215.735.2040. (Acorn Club Dress Code below)
- Four recently updated overnight guest rooms are available to IV Street members and approved guests at a cost ranging from $255 - $265. These rooms may also be accessed during the day to rest, refresh and change clothing prior to evening activities in the city for $75.
- Discounted parking at a cost of $10 (up to eight hours) is available at the Parkway Bellevue Self Park Garage one block east at 1423 Locust Street. Upon entering the garage, press "Get a Ticket" and then press "Get Hourly Ticket.” Please bring your barcoded ticket to the Acorn Club front desk to obtain an Acorn Discount Sticker. When departing the garage. scan the barcode on the ticket followed by the Acorn discount sticker barcode at the Pay Station and use your Credit or Debit card. There is no cash option at this garage.
- IV Street members may also access some of Acorn’s reciprocal clubs across the USA and internationally (UK). Please contact Jen Gallagher, General Manager of the Acorn Club, to coordinate invitation requests. Call: 215.735.2040 or Email: jennifer@acornclub.org. The Acorn does not make its list of reciprocal clubs available. To check about possibilities for a specific city at a specific time of the year, because of actual travel plans, please email Jen to inquirer if there is a possibility of an introduction.
- The “IV Street Acorn Shuttle” will be available for the Christmas Sing luncheon in December and the Annual Meeting dinner in January. This is van transportation to and from The Church of the Redeemer in Bryn Mawr. The fee, normally $50 round trip, is based upon a minimum of 12 passengers. This fee will be waived for the first 12 members who sign up for the shuttle.
If you use the Acorn for personal activities, please settle any costs incurred directly with The Acorn Club at the front desk before leaving the Club. You can pay preferably using cash or check or by7 credit card with a service fee added. As always, First Tuesday Lunches, other IV Street Club events and shuttle costs, if incurred will be billed through the IV Street Club.
IV Street Club History with the Acorn Club
The IV Street Club’s facilities on 4th Street in Philadelphia were acquired after our founding in 1909 and sold in 1925 when the club house was moved to 330 Harmony Street. From 1929 til 1953 The IV Street Club maintained two locations one at 330 Harmony Street and the other, “Uptown” at 1525 Locust Street because of the western migration of members. These Club Rooms were utilized by IV Streeters for merrymaking, dining, games and debaucherous activities until 1990. Please read more about our rich club history located on the club website to learn more. Please see IV Street History here.
In 1995, when Bob Glenndining was President, a “moving company” of IV Street members was called in, including Cliffe Cheston, Harry Lonsdale, Jim Smartt, Bob Glendinning and Jud Van Dervort to transfer remaining belongings from our recently sold building at 1522 Latimer Street to The Acorn Club, located at 1519 Locust Street. Bill Walker had successfully negotiated with Sally Wirts, one of his clients, the use of a room on the third floor, including adorning its walls with IV Street memorabilia.
The Acorn Club is the oldest woman’s club in the USA. Its clubhouse is grand, refined and easily accessible. Our relationship with the Acorn Club, now in its 30th year, is a successful and exclusive partnership.
We are thankful today to hold our regular gatherings at The Acorn Club, Sunnybrook Golf Club, Gulph Mills Golf Club, St. Davids Golf Club and The Union League of Philadelphia.
